Fine Arts Generalist Meeting

Are you a middle school or elementary generalist? Are you also in charge of teaching a couple of fine arts classes, such as Art, Drama and/or Dance? Do you need help or a desire to reach out? Then look no further!

I am looking for a group interested in getting together to network, share ideas and help create a big picture of your future program with great usable lessons plans.

Please contact me at jrherman@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested in participating. I am offering 2 dates: Saturday, February 27th or Saturday March 5th. We will get together between 11am and 1pm, and to keep it casual I will be booking a private room at a restaurant in Calgary TBA. Unfortunately because we do not receive funding for our meeting, paying for your lunch will be up to you. Please let me know your preferred date and we will decide on one.

Grade 1/2 Shaker Experiment

Grade 1/2 students have been building and decorating their very own eggs shakers! This may seem like a crafty little activity. And for sure, students are excited to get into the paint and get their hands dirty as they try to manage holding and painting a 3D object. But not only is this a great fine-motor activity, it began as a scientific experiment in making predictions. Students were shown a variety of different materials and asked to make a hypothesis about what material would make the best sound inside a shaker. They were then given the materials to test and make observations, which became a language arts lesson in itself. Finally, students made their conclusions and began the construction of their egg. To see the pride, and to listen to their plans of how they will use them is exciting. The following sessions are $15 each, from 4:30-6:00pm at David Thompson Middle School and East Lake School in Chestermere. April 5th - Self Portrait Bean Bag Puppets with Wendy Passmore: create your lucky doppleganger to practice self-reflection and sewing skills!
